What makes them UPcycled?

Our UPcycled Hanging Planters + Propagation Stations feature UPcycled glassware (sourced locally from waste diversion or thrifting), UPcycled hardware + accessories, and intentionally sourced cordage/string for crafting the handmade macramé.

How should the UPcycled Hanging Planters + Propagation Stations be used?

The Hanging Planters + Propagation Stations can be used for a multitude of things, the possibilities seem to be endless!

Here's a list of a few things our customers have used their UPcycled pieces for...

  • Propagating plant friends (pothos vines + herbs are popular!)

  • Potting plants, both hydroponically (in water + substrate only) and in soil

  • As a little beta fish tank 😍 (do your research for this one!)

  • As a means to keep the cats from bullying their plant siblings

  • To hold tealight candles - we recommend electric candles! (Please exercise caution when using candles with a real flame. If you are unsure if it is a good idea, it probably isn't one 😆 When in doubt, give us a shout! Text us a pic of your purchase and we will help you sort everything out.)

  • And finally, as a unique source of joy!

Where can I install the Hanging Planters + Propagation Station?
What tools do I need?

The UPcycled Hanging Planters + Propagation Stations can be hung from many places. From Ceilings, to Window Seals, to Door Knobs, if you can ensure it is secure, you are ready to rock and roll!

BUT, before we start busting holes in the ceiling + walls, let's ask a few questions...

  1. Where do I want to hang up my piece? - Location is everything when it comes to hanging up your unique UPcycled Propagation Station. Depending on where you want to install it, you may be able to avoid any unnecessary holes + elbow grease.

  2. What are my walls/ceiling made out of? - The material make up of the walls/ceilings in your home will directly determine your installation method + tools needed.

  3. How heavy is the piece I am hanging? - This question is VERY important when hanging anything on the ceiling + walls. Remember, plants become much heavier when they are freshly watered. You should consider what the total weight of your hanging propagation station/planter will be when it is all said and done. (i.e. Will it be holding water - hydroponic planter - or will it be holding soil? )

Smaller + lighter pieces will not need such robust hardware. Instead, using a nail or screw for wall installation should suffice.

If you want to avoid excessive holes, hanging the pieces (utilizing an 'S' hook) on a securely installed curtain rod is the perfect solution!

And if holes are simply a no-go, we recommend sticking with Command Hooks and whatever their weight limitations may be.

Some final tips...

  • Safety First! Make sure your safety is your top priority!

  • Wear safety goggles! You don't want any plaster dust getting into your eyes. (if you are a dust-a-phobe we also suggest wearing a mask)

  • Try to check for electrical wiring BEFORE drilling! YouTube can be a great way to do some research as well.

  • When selecting where you want to hang your piece, prioritize joy AND functionality. You don't want to put it somewhere where an aloof house guest may make unexpected contact with it.

  • Make sure you are hanging your piece in its forever space if you will be drilling into the ceiling + walls.

Tools you may need...

  • Safety goggles, a dust mask, and gloves (optional - in case you make content with ceiling insulation, which is commonly made with fiberglass and should not be touched)

  • A ladder or step-stool

  • A drill with a 9/16 in. drill bit to make holes in the ceiling + walls

  • A hook system - there are many different style options, don’t be afraid to do a little research!
